Katakombe

I think I’ve ever heard this word. But where?

Translation: Croatian (automatically detected) » English
catacombs

Update [1]: I got it: Les Catacombes by Glen Johnson

[Update 131009] Apparently I was wrong all this time. Catacombae is the name of the project that maintain NTFS-3G for Mac OS X. I use this several month after buy my Mac last year, then it crashed my system and after recovery I use Paragon. Today, after upgrading to snow leopard I back using NTFS-3G. I already got MacFuse installed anyway (it came with VMware).

Bad Luck Face Recognition

This is about iPhoto’09 which was introduced by Apple at Macworld Expo last January. New special feature of this year’s edition is face recognition and geotagging/places.

About Faces, You can put a name to a face in just a couple of photos, and iPhoto suggests a set of possible matches you can confirm with a click. iPhoto then uses the information to sift through your library and find even more potential matches.

Now, this is the bad luck recognition. Object was recognized as face. And people at Flickr already gather them in one group. This is one funny image:

WordPress Video Plugin: Can’t Insert the Video

If you face that problem, here’s one solution you should try.

May be when you ‘Add New’ post in your WordPress, you put ‘the expression’ while you writing in ‘Visual’ mode, like this: [vimeo 4012450]

So you have to change your writing mode to ‘HTML’ mode, right beside the ‘Visual’ mode, and put ‘the expression’ there.

Hope this can help you. This make me confused when I use WordPress Video Plugin for the first time. Lucky I try this, and it’s work! (I didn’t read the manual)

Take care!

Conficker.C worm is Coming

Activation date of Conficker.C worm, 1 April, is coming.

Conficker, also known as DownupDownadup and Kido, is a computer worm that surfaced in October 2008 and targets the Microsoft Windows operating system. Just be careful. Patch and update your machine. We don’t know how bad it will be. Prepare yourself like Canada’s White Hats.

Me? I’m Mac 

Welcome to Macintosh

Just watch the documentary. Nice story and history of Apple.

Welcome to Macintosh – The documentary for the rest of us.” is the first documentary of its kind to mix history, criticism and an unapologetic revelry of all things Apple into a movie experience. Whether a long time Mac fanatic or new to computers, Welcome to Macintosh takes you from the early days of the Apple-I to the latest the company has to offer.

So, why Apple? They’re creative and innovative, they don’t think about other product, other competitor, they just made something better than other. It didn’t make you stupid, there’s no warning that you don’t understand (like BOD). It’s not complicated like registry and non understandable string. It’s UNIX like, it is easier to understand, and you really need it in Computer Engineering (my major in school). They have better design and graphics. Special hardware and software. Friendly community of Mac user. Better supply and support. And many more advantages. It just little bit pricy… make people think twice before they buy Apple product. But it’s comparable with the satisfaction. Once you use it, you’ll really love it. Just hear the boot sound… it’s a happy sound. You hate people who use it, but when you used it, you will addicted to it.

This is picture of all students in university classroom are working on an Apple MacBook. Get it from labnol.

Everybody using Mac. Welcome!

iPhone 3G Telkomsel: Damn! It’s too expensive.

iPhones 3G Telkomsel will available in Indonesia at GraPARI, OKE Shop, and some other distributor on March 23, 2009.

Since I know about iPhone will come to Indonesia with Telkomsel as carrier, I have a plan to buy it in the first place, 8 GB black one. I did order it! But now, I know the price, 9,6 million rupiahs, that plan just go way, gone with the wind (may be because of the currency, rupiah has fell in value against the USA dollar). I don’t have so much money to spend for a phone. I spend almost every hour of my day in front my Mac with unlimited Speedy internet access. And my phone now… I just put it somewhere and often ignore all calls and messages.

Telkomsel provides this application: TransJakarta (Jakarta busway information), Aphrodite (world sport schedule), Jakarta Globe (daily English news), BuUuk (recommended culinary places in Jakarta and Bali), Foyage (local city map), Detikcom (news), Angklung (music), SCTV (national TV), Kapanlagi.com (lifestyle and entertaiment site), Macetlagi.com (traffic monitoring portal and content streaming) and Kompas (daily Indonesian news). Do I need this? No…

Buy new phone? iPhone? It makes me think again. What am i going to use it for? How important is it anyway? Is it worth it?

For now the answer is NO. I’ll wait until the price goes down or someone just give me some money or give iPhone for free, and also wait for the next generation of iPhone.

Damn! It’s too expensive!

SSD: It’s faster

Lucky me. This news just appear at Gizmodo the day I have to show my presentation about SSD.

It’s about extreme modification, using 24 unit of 256 MB Samsung SSD (total 6 TB) as storage unit (using RAID). What can it do?

  • 2 GB/s read/write data
  • Open all of Microsoft Office in 0.5 second
  • Open 53 program in 18 second
  • Super fast defrag: 3 second, same as recycling 5.6 GB data
  • Rip DVD as fast as throw it away from second floor to the ground

Wow!!!

But the problem is it’s still more expensive than HDD, about US$3/GB, and still in development for bigger capacity.

ATSServer and PDF

Got some problem with my Mac last night, not a problem actually. After uncompressed some zip file into pdf, my MacBook fan keep running so fast, and when I look at Activity Monitor, ATSServer process use my CPU so much. At first, I didn’t realized it got something to do with the pdf file, but then after I look for an answer, I found that it was the problem.

I found the solution here. It says that, if I have new pdf (and other kind of files), Spotlight will make a database of the file content, so it will a database of all text in that document (for pdf, doc, etc). Later if I want to search some text on my document, I will find it faster.

The solution is: Open up System Preferences -> Spotlight Preferences -> Click Privacy button -> Click + button at bottom left and add the directory where you’ve just put your PDF files.

But, if I applied this, the document content is not at database, can’t find its content easily using Spotlight. In my case, I let ATSServer work for a while. I know it won’t be long and it didn’t make any damage to my Mac.
