But this app still lack of numerical data. From the picture above, I can say that I’m really a night owl. Most of my library is rock (pink), I like post-rock.

The other music analyzer is iTunes genius. It’s pretty neat. Picture below show us Genius Mixes, that categorize music library based on genre. You can make playlist based on one song too.

I got this hint from macosxhints somewhere.

Say you downloaded movies from scene, sub included, usually it’s on sub + idx format. Many media player don’t work well with this, or you just want plain srt files. What you need is D-Subtitler, OCR (Optical character recognition) app, it scan an image and encode it into text. This is an old released app. Sometimes the result is just muddy.

Way to do it:

Change extension *.sub to *.vob

Drag and drop to D-Subtitler. When it says it’s waiting, click on the green circle (I always thought I have to wait for something).

So far all subs I got only work with Choice of gray levels: 255,255,0,255

Use TextEdit to scan any error (Edit > Spelling and Grammar > Show Spelling and Grammar ) ⌘:

You can use more complex and serious app like MovCaptioner. This is actually used for captioning.

Bonus:

A.Christmas.Carol.DVDRip.XviD-RUBY english subtitle: ruby-accarol.srt

Mac OS X: Sub to Srt originally appeared on margjakob.net on March 22, 2010.

Second, Automatic (preference pane plugin actually), allows you to auto download content linked in RSS feeds: podcasts, videocasts, torrentcasts.

How to set it up? Quick Start Guide & Tips available in zip files you get Automatic’s site. It’s pretty clear, screenshot available. Get the feed link, make new subscription, insert filter. In Transmission, you only need to set ‘Watch for torrent files in’ (Preferences > Transfer). Code On a Diet, both lightweight and easy on the resources.

Oot. Midseason, many new show. Best new show: The Pacific, story about World War II, created by the same team behind Band of Brothers.

For what? Host your own website, blog, email server, security systems etc.

DynDNS will provide Dynamic DNS Free (DDNS) that allows you to create a hostname that points to your home or office IP address, providing an easy-to-remember URL for quick access. Setup guide available from Saif Khan.

Linksys modem/router need to be set up, so the domain can be routed to your server. Pain in the Tech shows you how.

MAMP stands for Macintosh, Apache, MySQL and PHP, local server environment for Mac OS X. Stooryduster shows you how to setup wordpress in local server.

In MAMP Pro this local server can be accessed from the internet, with the service provided by DynDNS. Here’s screenshot for setting in my case, server and hosts setting.

And voilà, http://margjakob.ath.cx:8888 is ready for the world. (my movies and tv log)

Damn! My connection really crazy, especially this last 3 days. And not only me, all people in Bandung who use the same provider facing this same problem. This slow stupid connection started at September 10. New Bandwidth Management, big latency at 13-18 pm and 19 pm-12 am. Only got around 384k at this hours, half day and at the time we need it most. My speed up to 2048k but sometimes I got 4 digit latency (people already make a joke about this: you can buy ‘teh botol‘ with that digit :D).

If we call their complaint service at 147, the answer just the same every time. Try ping here, try ping there, okay Sir, we will pass your complaint, and same thing happened if they sent technician to your house. So, don’t call them?

Maybe we should do something like people of Monticello? The saga began in 2007, when the town passed a referendum approving the city-owned fiber network. The city says that it had approached TDS (their internet service provider) and was told that no such system would be installed in town in the near future, so it went ahead with its own plans. Want 50Mbps Internet in your town? Threaten to roll out your own. But this is hard, nobody got poor people’s back in this country.

Now I’m using new Snow Leopard, buy it at agallery Ciwalk. Still same hardware, Plastic MacBook late 2007. Want to upgrade RAM to 4 GB, but I have no money.

Upgrade is easy. This is my first time, only about one hour, same long as make a manual backup; wish I have Time Machine. And after upgrading I straightway update it to 10.6.1, only 9.8 MB.

More cool Exposé and friend effect. Nice!

I’m a movie junkie. The new QuickTime 10 not as good as the old one, especially keyboard shortcut. Also the new interface is kinda too much.

So far my daily need app run smoothly. That’s for now!

October 2009: The ability to forecast large earthquakes, greater than M6.0, more accurately and many days in advance, has been greatly enhanced by a new finding that enabled us to forecast the approximate magnitude of the Padang, Sumatra, earthquake (30 September) two weeks in advance.

It’s a new season for Leverage. Season 2.

The Famous Five is back. Hacker, thief, hitter, grifter and the mastermind. The story is just the same, nothing so great about it. But in this season Hardison the geek, using a Mac instead of HP. It’s just usual for Hollywood movie, using Apple stuff, MacBook, iMac, iPhone. With MacBook Pro unibody 15 inch(?), he show off some cover flow on the screen. And there are some other cool gadget like usual, 6 widescreen monitor in wall, earbuds, etc. He is doing some boring job during the ‘holiday’, hack white house email. And later, together with Parker and Eliot, he just rampage into Nate apartment. Hardison ‘buy’ the builing, so he become Nate’s landlord.

One song from this premier, from the scene when Nate know Sophie has a boyfriend, “Not Sure Yet” by Andy Lange. For Lange, having his song placed in the episode happened by accident – he’s actually a sound engineer on Leverage and he passed his CD along to the show’s executive producer and director Dean Devlin.

It’s free, subtitle editor in Java actually, but I’m Mac. You can get it at jubler.org.

Here’s two useful tools for me:

1. Shift Time

If the sub start to soon or to late, use this tool. You can add / subtract how many second or minute you need. But if you watching movie with vlc, you can do this easily by press j button on keyboard for adding subtitle delay and h for subtracting subtitle delay. Keyword: delay.

2. Recode

You need this if the sub really don’t sync with the movie at all. It keep appear faster or slower even after you already shift it. It’s happened because the movie have different frame per second (fps) rate with the movie which synced with the subtitle. Different version or encode setting. It can start early but finish late. Movie runtime 1 hour, but sub runtime 1 hour 15 minutes for example.

To subtract sub runtime you need to make fps bigger, same with the opposite. Tips, watch the movie first, find the start time of first sentence and last sentence, then recode and shift the sub to match it with the movie. Keyword: runtime.

Make sure the sub just need delay or just out of sync, not a srt file with time and text on it. You’ll waste your time.

Apple known for it’s (Google search):

ease and simplicity

excellence in electronic devices

phones, desktops and music players

for having lawyers with sharp teeth and a hungry appetite

graphics and photo/video technology

amazing team work and sales philosophy

Overall, I think Apple is TED. TED stands for Technology, Entertainment, Design. TED is conference though. It started out (in 1984) as a conference bringing together people from those three worlds. Jobs (man behind Apple) never talks there, but here’s what TED says about Steve Job’s speaking techniques:

Build up the presentation to something unexpected

Stick to one theme per slide, and make them visually attractive;

Vary the speed and tone at which you speak to electrify the audience

Three things are absolutely key: rehearse, rehearse, rehearse

If you’re passionate about the idea or the product, show it.

Steve Jobs still not appear at WWDC, still sick? Does he have any chance to speak at TED?

(Just another post from Apple fanboy)
