Just Spreading The Word: Upgrade Your WordPress to the Latest Version

OttoDestruct, a key WordPress developer and supporter: there is an “attack” on older versions of WordPress right now. The number of sites hit by this is growing every hour. Protect your WordPress blog now: UPGRADE NOW!!! (latest version is 2.8.4. I already did this one day after latest version released).

Matt Mullenweg: Where worms of old would do childish things like defacing your site, the new ones are silent and invisible, so you only notice them when they screw up (as this one did) or your site gets removed from Google for having spam and malware on it (How to keep your WordPress Secure).

Now using 2.8.1, No Problem So Far

I just upgrade this blog to WordPress 2.8.1. No problem yet, and I hope there will be no problem like the last time I upgraded WordPress (theme problem though).

As usual: Don’t forget to back up before upgrade!

WordPress 2.8 and Problem I Face

WordPress 2.8 was released two days ago, you can upgrade your core as easy as usual (tools > upgrade). I just upgrade mine. Don’t forget to backup, just in case something bad happen.

Some problem I face just after upgrading (I test this on Safari, Firefox, and Opera, with or without plugin):

  • Tab for comment, favorite, and tag for my theme did not work
  • Upload/insert button for picture, video & etc on posts did not work (must do it in HTML mode)
  • Input box like tags in posts did not work

Improvement I like:

  • It’s kinda faster
  • Widget (of course)

And this what I just found out, may be I’ll update this post later. Hmmm… how can I add tags for this post? (update: do it in quick edit mode)

[noon update] this is a theme problem (may be I will change the theme for a while till this is fixed)

100 posts, New Theme

This is my 100th post in this blog, started at last new year’s eve. Yesterday I installed new theme, Irresistible, which I use now. Also I add some plugin, they are kinda needed for this theme.

  • LifeStream, it allows you to effortlessly integrate your social network activity across the web with your blog
  • iBox, a lightweight script that lets you overlay images and documents in a small dialog without a page reload, it’s like Lightbox 2

Other thing I did, moved my feed from your margjakob FeedBurner account to my Google Account. You know, feedburner.com is dead, now it’s feedburner.google.com, so you have to move your account, or make new account at Google. Meanwhile, other plugin, AdSense Manager is now being developed as Advertising Manager. But, when I installed it yesterday and tried to activated it, I got an error message everywhere. So, I go to my wordpress directory via ftp, delete that plugin folder and voila, it’s normal again.

Enjoy the new display and take care!

Google Search: say no to megawati

My ‘Eventually Megawati Writes Something‘ page right above the Facebook’s page I’m writing about. And it’s in the first page of Google search for ‘say no to megawati’ while many people still talking about the page.

The post was viewed 126 time until 10.00 pm today (12 hours since I posted it this morning). Best post in my blog for this last 3 month. (I get the data from WordPress.com Stats I used).

Thanks everyone!

WordPress Video Plugin: Can’t Insert the Video

If you face that problem, here’s one solution you should try.

May be when you ‘Add New’ post in your WordPress, you put ‘the expression’ while you writing in ‘Visual’ mode, like this: [vimeo 4012450]

So you have to change your writing mode to ‘HTML’ mode, right beside the ‘Visual’ mode, and put ‘the expression’ there.

Hope this can help you. This make me confused when I use WordPress Video Plugin for the first time. Lucky I try this, and it’s work! (I didn’t read the manual)

Take care!

WordPress Out of Memory Error

Last week I got some trouble with this site. I can’t do anything. The message just keep appeared when it tried to do something.

Fatal errorOut of memory (allocated 90439680) (tried to allocate … bla bla bla..

So what I do to fix it is, deactivate all plugins, re-install automatically WordPress core (upgrade tools), and it works again as usual. But some plugins still not active, still looking around, in case one of the plugins have bugs.

Update [1]: If you using gears (extension that allows to navigate on compatible websites offline and synchronize when going back online) don’t forget to re-enable after WordPress re-install.

More Plugin

Some plugin I played with for past few days:

NextGEN Gallery (I’ve used in the previous post). More option for gallery (wordpress default), nice effect there. I can make a slideshow (flash) too.

AdSense Manager. As can you see in my sidebar, there is an Ads there, from Google. With this plugin, I can manage ads from another ad network too, like Yahoo!PN and AdBrite.

WordPress.com Stats, just like analytics. More simple I think.

Ow… I add Hab.la too, with this widget I can chat direct from Adium (like shoutbox for guest, but I chat with them using IM Client). It’s using javascript and not an embedded one. If you click Hab.la widget on the sidebar, this web will become the frame at static.hab.la, to enable javascript for the small window for chat, at bottom-right corner.

And more will come around: WP Super Cache, All in One SEO Pack, etc.
