I found this post at Makezine blog yesterday, at lost knowledge colums. As it says, lost knowledge column explores the possible technology of the future in the forgotten ideas of the past, an improvised “street tech” of village artisans.

The story is about people in Papua, with their knowledge, lost knowledge, modified tools to make them more useful for their daily life. I kind of surprise reading this article. Didn’t expect a street tech technology from small village in Papua appear in Makezine.

In that story, there are a blacksmith, who modified a chainsaw become a Sago Grinder (Sago is staple food in Papua). I think many limitedness in Indonesia make people more creative. This make me remember a post in ‘Padepokan Budi Rahardjo’ about Bandung creative city, may be one of the most creative city in this world, no support from government, but creativity still appear more and more.

… not to die useless …

Tomorrow I have to go to Tugumulyo, visiting my grandpa and grandma and the rest of my family there. Tugumulyo is one little town (or ‘kecamatan’?) in South Sumatra. It’s about six to eight hour ride from Palembang, capital city of South Sumatra. Last time I go there, the road it’s really really bad, make the trip became longer.

Actually I go there to help my grandma to do installation of her new Point of Sales system in her shop and pharmacy. It’s not a big one though and I am not an expert in that field. I just have to choose the computer and the peripheral, something like barcode scanner, and install the POS software, and I hope it’s running well.

I’ll be there for about one week, so maybe I’ll be offline for a while, if there is no internet connection I can use. Later I will post my journey story here, if I have an interesting one.
